For the
thematic_doctitle()
, it is only coded for
is_single()
,
is_home()
,
is_front_page()
,
is_page()
,
is_search()
,
is_category()
,
is_tag()
,
is_404()
, and else it returns the description. I would love to see
is_post_type_archive()
included in the next release.

Out of the box jQuery Tools implementation: http://flowplayer.org/tools/

That would really give this theme A LOT of power under the hood and would definitely give it the upper hand on other frameworks. Especially for developers.

Anyone with me on this?

I'd like to see the mods for a print.css as in

http://codex.wordpress.org/Styling_for_Print#Creating_a_Print_Style_Sheet

properly inserted into the thematic framework

please

coz its a pain to put into each child theme if you switch between child themes or use a themeswitcher-like plugin

I am not very knowledgeable yet about what Thematic can and cannot do.
These are my votes though:

1. Use of Wordpress 3.0 features including the header, menu, background, etc.

2. I think the 3 column right sidebar layout could use some tweaking. When adding background colors to all the areas you can see the margins, paddings, etc. and stuff isn't very pretty (not that I'd have backgrounds on all the areas but what if I did?) Shouldn't have to tweak that out the box.

3. I agree with ROBO for more hooks, but there are a lot, but more is good.

It would be really cool to have more areas that could have content placed therein via hooks. e.g. more areas in the sidebar where content could be placed directly from functions.php.

I am about to push out some updates to the "Thematic Options" theme early May.

This includes:

1) An option to select the layout (2-col-left,2-col-right, 3-col, etc)
2) An option to upload a logo
3) An option to add google analytics
4) An option to change the footer text

What's really cool though, is it's very easy to add your own options. Again, see the post for a description of how it works: http://wptheming.com/2009/10/thematic-theme-options-panel/

I'm not very skilled at making plug-ins, so I got a quote from another developer who's willing to convert this over- and I'm wondering if I should move forward on it. We could probably get this in by the time 3.0 is launched.

I envision the plug-in having a basic set of options, which you could then hook into from your child theme. It would include the options right now + some typography and background settings.

Chris, perhaps you could e-mail me directly [devin at wordpresstheming.com] to discuss the particulars and perhaps get commit access to push out the first version.

For anyone who's interested in checking out the latest version of the theme, you can get to get it via svn at: https://thematic-child-options.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/

Hi, I'd like to add to some ideas for the plugin. I'd like a configuration for the Search, Meta, and RSS widgets that are built into Thematic ;) I checked the status on the google page, looks like no one picked this up yet... I'm like Ian, neither the skill nor time, but I'm working on upgrading my skills with Thematic!

What's the status on this... I'm interested. The plugin idea is cool for extensive options but in some cases some more fundamental options for thematic could lighten the core and make it easier to work with.

Example: I just finished up a thematic project where I created a theme option that sets and allows the changing of a default layout from the three provided. The option then sets a new body class. Then combining all three layout stylesheets into one using the bodyclasses makes for a lighter, nimbler theme with more options and less code.

Looking forward to 2.8, a tag cloud that will allow any taxonomy (categories) to be included in the cloud see: Template Tags/wp tag cloud. One that would also allow developers to specify, using the 'include' parameter, which tags or categories are included. It would be nice if such a widget could be included in specific pages as well as asides and enabled so there could be multiple clouds used throughout the theme.

Yes! Bring it on!

With the right documentation, couldn't it could also become a case study for users to learn more about adding such functions, whether via plugin or via a child-theme functions.php file?

You know what would be really cool for Thematic? A plugin. A plugin that did to the default Thematic styles what the options in the Thesis theme are doing.

Structure options. Navigation options. Font options. Header image options. SEO options.

Only better.

Totally free. Totally GPL. And it wouldn't compromise the lightness of Thematic for hard-core developers. It'd be a plugin.

What do you say? I have neither the skill nor time to code this up. But there're a ton of talented people using Thematic who can make this happen.

Do you want to see this happen?
