The Road to Thematic Version 1.0

    I'd like to hear your ideas for Thematic version 1.0. Just for fun right now. I'll start. :)

    1. Clean up the library. This is mostly my fault. I'm sure there's some consolidating that can be done here.

    2. Add hooks to the subsidiary asides.

    3. Unhook the theme options from a Child Theme. Or certain theme option.

    4. Hook into the theme options.

    5. Hook in the comments template so it can be unhooked and popped in somewhere else.

    6. Same with the navigation.

    7. Show those fools at the Academy they were wrong when they laughed at my theories! Wrong! Wrong! Mooohahahahhaha …

    … er. Ahem.

    Your thoughts?

    customize the childtheme with lots of heavily commented examples - make it like a tutorial of sorts.

    Conditional widgets as does this plugin as a theme feature with select-boxes where to show and where not.

    +1 for dwenaus suggestion: more and heavily commented examples.

    I agree. Thematic is a great framework YET. It needs tutorials. This is the key point.

    agree ... a lot of "How to" and "Tutorials" needed.
    (And a forum with a search option :-) )

    Ian has started the guide at http://themeshaper.com/thematic-for-wordpress/guide-customizing-thematic-theme-framework/ but maybe we need a place were everyone can edit the file collaboratively. Should we use the google code repository, or start a wiki?

    We should probably let child themes remove the jquery call altogether.

    We should probably start using the new get_search_form() so Child Themes can filter it if they like.

    I'd like to see a "base" theme (like the Skeleton theme for Hybrid, http://themehybrid.com/themes/skeleton) that would be a bare framework for developing themes. This would be most useful for developers who are very comfortable with css and would like to quickly create unique child themes without having to wade through the default stylesheets. Personally I'm finding the multiple stylesheets of Thematic to be a bit of a mishmash--and definitely the weak point of the framework--from the standpoint of visual design and flexibility.

    Not at all .. 'The Bones' will be a blank theme with the CSS markup in the style.css but without any definitions.
