   Hi everyone,
   my site is running on thematic, with a custom child theme.

   I'd like to do a lighweight mobile version of the site - not necessarily smart phones but also older phones -,
   thing is I have no idea where to start.

   I assume everything can be appended in the function.php of my current chidtheme, but I don't have any idea how to tell thematic to load or unload some elements/pages etc... if the user is accessing the site from a mobile device/phone.

   Could anybody please explain me the basics or at least put me in the right direction to achieve that?

   I know this is a bit of a cop-out reply, and a little late, but...after monkeying around with mobile support for a couple days, I decided to stick with the Wordpress Mobile Pack plugin. So many devices/browsers...so little time. I'm not a big fan of using 3rd party plugins for things I want core to the theme, but these guys have put alot of time into ensuring proper detection and theme switching, and it works with MU (blog networks). Now all I have to do is worry about styling.
